Miloš lives in a small village in Serbia. Every year his family celebrates Slava. Slava is a special day for Serbian families. It honors their patron saint. Miloš’s family celebrates Saint George. =
Miloš živi u malom selu u Srbiji. Svake godine njegova porodica slavi Slavu. Slava je poseban dan za srpske porodice. Odaje počast njihovom svecu zaštitniku. Miloševa porodica slavi Svetog Đorđa.
On this day they prepare a big feast. Miloš helps his mother bake bread. The bread is called “Slavic cake”. They also make a special dish from the grain. Miloš’s father lights a candle in front of the saint’s icon. =
Na ovaj dan pripremaju veliku gozbu. Miloš pomaže majci da peče hleb. Hleb se zove “Slavski kolač”. Takođe prave posebno jelo od žita. Milošev otac pali sveću pred ikonom svetitelja.
The priest comes to bless the food and the family. Everyone prays together. After that they share the food. Family and friends come to visit. Everyone is eating, drinking and talking. They sing traditional songs. Miloš likes to hear old stories from his grandparents. The celebration lasts the whole day. At the end of the day, Miloš is happy and proud of his tradition. Slava is a day of love, faith and family. =
Sveštenik (pop) dolazi da blagoslovi hranu i porodicu. Svi se zajedno mole. Posle toga dele hranu. Porodica i prijatelji dolaze u posetu. Svi jedu, piju i pričaju. Pevaju tradicionalne pesme. Miloš voli da čuje stare priče od babe i dede. Proslava traje ceo dan. Na kraju dana, Miloš je srećan i ponosan na svoju tradiciju. Slava je dan ljubavi, vere i porodice.
