Norvežanin Roald Amundsen I Englez Robert Falkon Skot žele da odu na Južni pol. Svako od njih želi da
bude prvi čovek na Južnom polu.
Norwegian Roald Amundsen and Englishman Robert Falcon Scott want to go to the South Pole. Each of
them wants to be the first man on the South Pole.
Početkom 1911. obe ekspedicije stižu na Antarktik. Pripremaju se mnogo meseci na obali.
At the beginning of 1911, both expeditions arrive at the Antarctic. They prepare for many months on the coast.
Kada se zima na Antarktiku završila, Amundsen i četvorica njegovih ljudi kreću na put do pola.
When the Antarctic winter ended, Amundsen and four of his men start the journey to the pole.
Imaju saonice koje vuku psi. Skot ima ponije. Amundsen kreće na putovanje 10 dana pre Skota.
They have sleighs pulled by dogs. Scott has ponies. Amundsen starts the journey 10 days before Scott.
14. decembra 1911. Amundsen stoji na Južnom polu. Njegov tim ostaje tamo 3 dana. Ostavlja šator sa
norveškom zastavom na banderi.
On December 14, 1911, Amundsen stands on the South Pole. His team stays there for 3 days. He leaves a
tent with the Norwegian flag on the pole.
Svi muškarci se bezbedno vraćaju na obalu. Prešli su 3000 km peške, a put je trajao 99 dana.
All the men return to the coast safely. They went 3000 km on foot and the journey took 99 days.
Skotova ekspedicija stiže do Južnog pola više od mesec dana kasnije, 17. januara 1912.
Scott’s expeditions arrives at the pole more than a month later on January 17, 1912.
Na žalost, na povratku ih je uhvatila jaka snežna oluja. Niko nije preživeo putovanje.
Unfortunately, they are caught in a bad snowstorm on the way back. Nobody survived the journey.
